Brief : "As a team students will create a scale template for a Ferrari 250 GTO and then divide it into equal portions. As individuals they will create an aluminium skin to adhere to their portion of its contours." Step 1: The Mould A GTO model was put through a slicer program to output slice files that could be used for the laser cutter to cut MDF boards. There are many practical application of the bowl shape within society and in particularly within the industrial design discipline. Below shows the range of application this shape has been applied to. Starting on a small scale, the spoon is reliant on the bowl shape for its function. Metal vase, suing two seperate metal pieces, uses the shape to both function and accentuate the plants above it, by leading your eye upwards, caused by the shape of the bowl. Metal lamp, uses the properties of the bowl shape to direct and house a light source. Simple and elegant. Metal fireplace, another practical use of the bowl shaped being used in conjunction with industrial design to create a functional and aesthetic piece of design. TUTORIAL - BOWL

Step 1: Set Up Using metal cutters, cut your metal into a circle, that you have already marked with a accurate circle. Following that draw 2 rings on the plate, at equidistant. These marks will act as guides later. Make sure you also file the side so the metal doesn't split. Step 2: Initial Shaping Now begin shrinking the metal using the wooden mould shown below, and using the pointed side of the rounded hammer, shown below. Then move onto the sandbag to further shape the metal into a bowl Step 3: Further Shaping Smoothen the shape of the bowl by using the rounded side of the hammer on the sandbag. Then progress onto a dolly to rid the shape of small defects. Step 4: English Wheel Using the english wheel will help get a near perfect bowl shape, however it will sometimes defect the overall shape of the bowl.
